Monitor Proofing
As a follow up to the monitor proofing discussion at the October DAL meeting, Andrew Wilson gave an update as to the state of the nation. Members of the DAL Steering Committee have put together a document of key considerations, which can be seen by clicking here. Please note this document can be added to, so let us know if you have further comments.

Last time we discussed the proprietary nature of the soft proofing market, which is causing the industry concern as hard copy proofs are disappearing but there is no real alternative on offer. People do not want to have to invest in more than one solution to are keen for reassurance that there will be global openness between suppliers. However, there are currently no initiatives to establish this global openness, which will slow down adoption of this technology.

The feeling is that we are a million miles away from where we should be and if things aren’t resolved in the next couple of years, the opportunity for this technology will be lost. It was even commented that if we repeat the mess that is hard copy proofing that it will be an appalling indictment of this industry.

It was therefore suggested that Andrew Wilson try to organise a meeting of the key suppliers to get realistic comments as to how this situation is going to be resolved. Watch this space for an update!
