What to See at the Show
Laurel Brunner kindly summarised what she felt DAL participants would want to take note of at the show. This included:
- Observing the speed in which plates can now be turned around and the impact this will have on workflow.
- Adobe PDF Print Engine, with an added comment that it is doubtful this will be adopted immediately as people have to assess the long term validity before investing.
- Quark 7 with job jackets.
- Adstream buying Quickcut
- Paying attention to the fact that many vendors have lots of small developments taking place, to try to keep up with changes in the market.
- Lots of developments within JDF, but it is still quite confined. People have to remember it’s a data format, not a product and what is important is how it is integrated into products.
- Digital printing is bigger, faster and better.
- Heidelberg showing a holistic JDF workflow.
Laurel mentioned a set of Technology Guides that are available, if you would like further information on these or you have any questions for Laurel, you can email her at lb@digitaldots.org.
TPT Sponsor Update
RR Donnelley Smart Factory

Ray Hartman gave a very interesting insight into their Digital Smart Factory in Atlanta, where they are doing much more with much less. Watch this space for information from Ray.
Time Inc Case Study

Guy Gleysteen talked about TIME’s adoption of a soft proofing only workflow. He made it clear that this is a technology that works and is possible for everyone to achieve. You can download Guy’s presentation by clicking here. Further information on digital advertising is available at http://www.direct2.time.com.
Andrew Wilson reported on a meeting that took place at the Financial Times on 27th March, to discuss interoperability between soft proofing solutions. This discussion was as a result of our previous meeting when it was felt that the lack of interoperability would slow down adoption of this technology. Please click here to see the notes from the meeting, which is a working document anyone is welcome to comment upon directly to Hannah Newberry on Hannah@leafagency.com or via the discussion forum at http://digitaladlab.forumsplace.com/.
